Fees on event payments: who pays and how much
Every online event payment carries two fees: Stripe's card processing fee of 2.9% + 30¢, and our 3% platform fee on the price. By default the player pays both as a Service fee at checkout, so your club receives the full price you set. If you tick Absorb Processing Fees on the event, players pay only your listed price and the fees come out of what your club receives. Free events have no fees.
When players pay the fees (the default)
We add a Service fee on top of the price, sized so that after Stripe's fee and ours your club still gets the full price. For example, a $40.00 entry costs the player $42.74, and your club receives $40.00.
The fee is worked out on the price before sales tax, after any promo code.
Players see it as its own Service fee line at checkout, marked Non-refundable, below any sales tax.
When your club absorbs the fees
Absorb the fees when you want players to pay exactly the price you advertise. Players then pay the price plus any sales tax, and we take our 3% of the price plus Stripe's 2.9% + 30¢ of the whole charge from the payment. On a $40.00 entry with no tax, the player pays $40.00 and your club receives $37.34.
Open the event form: create a new event, or edit an existing one.
Below the price, tick Absorb Processing Fees.
Save the event.
The setting is per event; there is no club-wide default. It doesn't appear when players pay you directly instead of online, because nothing is charged through us.
Clubs with their own Stripe account
Most club events charge players on your club's own Stripe account, so each payment lands in your Stripe balance after the fees. How Stripe bills its fee depends on your account type, but what your club nets is the same either way:
If your Stripe account is billed by Stripe directly (a Standard account with the full Stripe Dashboard), Stripe takes its fee from you and we reduce our fee by the same amount.
Otherwise, we pay Stripe's fee out of our fee.
A small number of older events, mainly ones that sold registrations before your club connected Stripe, still collect payments through Good Game Sports and are paid out after the event. The same fees apply. For timing, see How Payouts Work.
Fees when you refund
Our platform fee isn't returned on a refund. Whether the player gets the service fee back is your choice when you issue the refund:
Take it from their refund: the player gets back what they paid, less the service fee.
The club covers it: the player gets every cent back, and the fee comes out of your club's money.
Refunds given as club credit return the full amount paid. For the steps, see Refund a player's entry fee.
Memberships, court bookings and private events have their own fee rules. For private events, see Fees on private event payments.
