Keep a sub pool and choose how subs affect standings
Add the people who fill in for your league to a sub pool on the division, then pick them from a list whenever a player can't make a week. Whether a sub's rounds count toward the standings is set for the whole division under Event Settings > Substitute Standings, and you can override it for one sub's rounds when you assign them.
You need to be a host or club admin for the event to manage the pool and these settings.
Add people to the sub pool
A sub in the pool never takes a spot, isn't counted in capacity or opt-in totals, is never placed in a group or a generated round, and doesn't receive announcements.
Go to the Host Dashboard and open the Players tab.
Click Add (on a narrow screen, Add Player in the ⋮ menu).
Choose Add Individual Player, or Add Multiple Players to paste several names at once.
Under Add as (or Add these as), select Sub.
Find the person's account, or add them as a guest. A sub's email is optional.
Save.
Subs appear in their own Subs section under the division, with a count of how many are available. Use the pencil to edit a sub, or the trash icon to remove them from the pool.
Team events (MLP) and leagues sold one week at a time have no sub pool. In a League event, Team Event / MLP divisions and older MLP divisions have team subs instead, who belong to one team and pay for each week they play. See Add and manage team subs in an MLP league.
One role per person per division. Someone can't be both a player and a sub in the same division.
Subs in the pool aren't charged.
Bulk adds take names only. To link an account or add a DUPR ID, add that sub on their own or edit them afterward.
Assign a sub to a player's weeks
Generate the round first. A sub is assigned to matches, so there is nothing to assign until the matches exist.
On the Players tab, tap the swap icon next to the player who is out.
In Substitute Name, pick someone from the pool. Picking a sub fills in their saved DUPR ID. Typing a new name adds that person to the pool.
Optionally set a Points Deduction.
Under Select Dates for Substitute, tick the weeks the sub covers.
Optionally, change Standings for the rounds above (see below).
Tap Register.
The player gets a SUB badge, and the sub is recorded in that player's place on each covered match. A sub can fill in for only one player per round. Matches played by a sub with no Sub DUPR ID are left out of your DUPR upload.

In Ladder League, Up and Down the River, Humpty Dumpty, Crazy 8's, Cream of the Crop and Pecking Order, a regenerated round keeps its subs. In other formats, regenerating a round clears them, so open the swap icon again and tap Update to reapply the sub.
Choose how sub rounds count toward standings
A sub's results always count in full for the opponents they played.
Go to Settings on the Host Dashboard, then Event Settings.
Open Substitute Standings for the division.
Set the two switches below, then tap Apply.
If the event is part of a series, you're asked whether to apply the change to this event only, to this and following events, or to all upcoming events.
Count substitute results
On by default: a sub's rounds add to the standings of the player they filled in for. When it's off:

Changing this recalculates standings straight away, including past rounds. It doesn't change scores or who plays.
Penalize wins
Voids one game win for a team in any match where both partners played with a sub, if the team won at least one game. It's available only for same-partner divisions scored by individual games, and only while Count substitute results is on.
Override the setting for one sub
In the swap dialog, Standings for the rounds above offers Count their results and Void a win when both partners have subs. Each can follow the division setting, or be set to always or never apply. The override lasts only while that same sub covers those dates. A sub covering only part of a night always follows the division setting. The Substitute Standings dialog shows how many players have an override, and changing the division setting leaves them as they are.
