Give a doubles team a name
Give a set-partner doubles team its own name, such as "The Dinkers". First turn on Custom team names for the division in Event Settings, then type the name in Team name (optional) when you edit either partner on the Players tab. The name then shows in place of the two players' names on match cards, brackets, standings and the TV board.
You need to be the event's host or a club admin. Players can't name their own team.
Turn on custom team names
Team names are off for every division until you turn them on, so the field stays out of the way for events that don't use them.
Open the event from your Host Dashboard and go to Event Settings.
Click Name Display Configuration.
Under Custom team names, check each division that uses team names, or check All divisions.
Click Save.
Only divisions with set partners are listed, because formats that rotate partners have no fixed teams to name.
Name a team
The Team name (optional) field appears once the player has a partner, so link the two players as partners first.
In the Host Dashboard, go to the Players tab.
Tap the pencil icon next to either player on the team.
In Team name (optional), type the name. The hint under the field shows the player names it will replace.
Tap Save.
The name is saved on both partners, so it doesn't matter which one you edit. On the Players tab it appears above each player's name, and searching the tab by team name finds both partners.
Names can be up to 40 characters.
Two teams can share a name.
To change a name, edit it the same way. To remove it, clear the field and tap Save. The team goes back to showing its players.
Where the team name shows
The name replaces the players wherever the team appears as one line. On match cards, brackets and the Standings tab, tap the name to see who's on the team.
Match cards on the Matches tab and the TV board
Brackets and the Standings tab
The host's Live, Queue and Completed views, with the players listed under the name
Players' own views: My Matches and their event-day page, for their team and their opponents
When you enter a score, the score window shows each team's name in bold with its two players underneath, so you can confirm who played. Searching the Matches tab by team name finds that team's matches.
When a team name is removed
A team name belongs to that pairing. It's cleared automatically when either player gets a different partner or is left without one, including when you remove one of the partners from the event. Name the new team again after re-pairing.
Turning off Custom team names for a division removes every team name in it, and they can't be brought back. Before saving, we show how many team names each division will lose so you can cancel.
Changing a player's own name doesn't affect the team name. To change how the players are listed under the team, edit the player. In Team Event / MLP events, teams already have their own names; see Rename a team.
