Creating an Event

Choosing event type (Tournament, League, Single Day)

Choose Tournament when you are running a one-day or weekend event with multiple divisions and a clear finish. Choose League when players will return across weeks or sessions, and you want results to carry forward between rounds. Choose Single Day Event when you are running a one-day event such as a round robin.

Before you start, make sure you are ready to create the event from the Create Event flow.

When to use a tournament

Tournaments fit events that start, progress, and finish on a set schedule. They work best for clubs running brackets, pool play, or other format-driven events with a defined end date and multiple divisions.

If you need help choosing a tournament structure, see Bracket formats overview and Round Robin formats overview.

When to use a league

Leagues fit recurring play. Use them when the same group of players comes back each week, round after round, and you want to manage ongoing standings or rotating matchups.

League-style events are better for weekly play, ladder play, and other formats where you keep generating new rounds instead of finishing after one bracket.

For ladder-based leagues, see Ladder formats overview.

When to use a single day event

Single Day Event fits one-day events, generally round robins that may repeat over time but should not carry standings across weeks.

Quick rule of thumb

  • Tournament = fixed event, fixed finish, usually one day or a weekend with multiple divisions

  • League = recurring event, repeating rounds, usually weekly or ongoing

  • Single Day Event = simple one-day events like round robins
