Ladder League Configuration settings
Several settings that shape a ladder league live together in one place: Event Settings → Ladder League Configuration, chosen per division.
This panel appears for Ladder League, Ladder League (Set Partners), both Up and Down the River variants, and Crazy 8's. It does not appear for other formats. Not every setting is meaningful in every one of them — the notes below say where each applies.
Player Movement
How many players move up/down per court after each round.
1 Player Movement — 1 winner moves up, 1 loser moves down
2 Player Movement — the default
Lower it to 1 for a ladder that settles into a stable order; leave it at 2 for more week-to-week churn.
Applies to: Ladder League and Ladder League (Set Partners). Up and Down the River always moves exactly one court on a win or a loss, so this setting does not change its behavior.
Group Size Priority
When the player count is not a multiple of 4, which group size goes on top.
Groups of 4 on top — smaller groups at the top, groups of 5 lower down. This is the default.
Groups of 5 on top — larger groups at the top, groups of 4 lower down.
Choose based on how you want the top court to feel. Four players on Court 1 means more games each against a smaller field; five means more opponents but more sitting between games.
This only reorders the courts — it never changes how many groups there are or how big they are. It also only applies when the sizes in play are exactly 4 and 5. Any group of 6 or more always stays at the very bottom, whichever option you pick.
Applies to: formats where court sizes can vary. Up and Down the River uses fixed courts of 4, so there is nothing to reorder.
Absence Penalty
On by default. The first missed game day is free; from the second, each additional missed day costs ladder positions. Byes never count as a miss.
Turn it off for a social league where positions should hold regardless of attendance.
Applies to: Ladder League and Ladder League (Set Partners). See The absence penalty in Ladder League.
Partner Match
How many times each player partners with each other player on their court in a round.
The default is 1 Match per Partner — each player plays with each partner once. Raising it makes each week longer, with every pairing on the court repeated.
This is what decides how many games a round actually contains for a given court size, so it is worth setting deliberately before the season starts.
Applies to: formats where partners rotate within a court.
Game scoring per group size
The same panel lets you set scoring targets per group size — what each court plays to, and win-by, depending on how many players are on it.
For example a court of 4 might play to 20 win by 1, a court of 5 to 15, and a court of 6 to 10 — shorter games where more people are waiting.
This is optional. Leave it unconfigured and courts use the division's normal scoring.
This is a different setting from Scoring Configuration, which decides whether standings and movement count match wins or individual games. Game scoring sets the target score; Scoring Configuration decides what a win means.
Settings that live elsewhere
Bye Mode is chosen when you generate, not here. It exists for Up and Down the River and Humpty Dumpty only — see Bye Mode for Ladder Leagues.
Scoring Configuration — match wins vs individual games.
Standings Sort Configuration — primary sort and tiebreakers, which also decide within-court ordering.
Set Opt-In Deadline — leagues collect availability per date. See League opt-in.
