Generate rounds in Ladder League
You generate one week at a time. The first round seeds the ladder; every round after that applies movement and rebuilds the courts.
Round 1 — seeding the ladder
The first round has no results to work from, so you choose how to order players.
Random — the default. Fine for a social league, or when you have no ratings.
By DUPR — orders by DUPR rating, highest first. Players without a rating go after those with one.
By standings — orders by current standings. Useful when the division has already played something.
By Event Rank — a separate seeding method with its own rules. See How to run a ladder league with "By Event Rank".
Whichever you pick, the resulting order becomes ladder rank 1..N and sets the starting courts.
How courts get sized
The app takes everyone who opted in for that date and splits them across courts:
Opted in | Courts |
|---|---|
4–7 | One court of that size — a 6 or 7 stays together |
11 | Two courts: 5 and 6 |
Otherwise | Courts of 4 and 5 |
Groups of 4 go on the top courts by default, with the 5s below. You can reverse that in Ladder League Configuration settings. Groups of 6 or more always stay at the very bottom.
If you cap it to the courts you actually have, sizes shift to fit rather than overflow. Courts being uneven is normal and expected — and because they flex between 4 and 6, most rosters divide up without anyone sitting out at all.
Generating later rounds
Make sure the current week is fully scored.
Open the next week.
Generate.
The app applies movement, rewrites ladder ranks, and builds the new courts. For the order of operations, see How movement works in Ladder League.
Score the week before you generate the next one. If nothing in a round is scored, nobody moves and the next round simply repeats the current ladder.
Who is included
Only players opted in for that date. Opted-out players appear in the Excluded section of the group editor, and players who never respond are treated as opted out once the deadline passes.
Players who miss a week keep their ladder slot — they are not removed from the league. See The absence penalty in Ladder League.
If someone does sit out
Court sizes flex between 4 and 6, so a player only sits when the numbers cannot be absorbed at all. When that happens the app assigns the bye.
A system-assigned bye does not count as a missed game day for the absence penalty — opting in and being sat out costs you nothing.
Ladder League does not have the Bye Mode setting you may have seen in other ladder formats. That choice — bottom players sit versus everyone takes turns — belongs to Up and Down the River and Humpty Dumpty, where courts are a fixed size and byes are routine.
More than one round on a date
A play night can run several rounds. Add a sub-round for the date and the app labels them Week 1-1, Week 1-2, and so on — the first number is the play date, the second is the round within it.
Adding a sub-round does not generate its matches; open that round and generate it. See Managing rounds and dates in Ladder formats.
Generating automatically
Rather than generating each round by hand, auto-generation can create the next round for you as play completes. See Auto-generation in Ladder formats.
You cannot clear a round while auto-generation is on. Stop it first.
