When a player leaves during a ladder night
When a player leaves partway through a Ladder League night, take them out from the Host Dashboard's Players tab, not from Edit Groups. The round being played keeps its games, and the next round you generate leaves the player out and re-splits the courts around everyone still playing.
Take the player out for the rest of the night
Do this as soon as you know they have gone, and before you generate the next round.
On the event page, tap Host Dashboard.
Open the Players tab and tap the player.
In a single-day event, tap Check Out. In a league, make sure tonight's date is selected at the top of the Players tab, then pick Opt Out from the player's status menu.
In a league, the opt-out covers every remaining round on tonight's date. The player's other weeks are unchanged.
Don't remove the player from the event. Removing marks them as withdrawn from the whole event, not just tonight.
Finish the round in progress
The current round was drawn before the player left, so its games stay as they are and their court is one player short for the games that remain.
Enter scores for the games the player finished. Those results count.
If someone fills in for the remaining games, enter those scores as usual.
Otherwise, leave the remaining games unscored. Unscored games add nothing to anyone's results when the ladder moves.
Generate the next round
Generate the next round the usual way. It only includes players who are still checked in (single-day events) or opted in for tonight (leagues), so the player who left isn't placed.
Normally the next round reuses the last round's court sizes. Because the head count changed, we re-split everyone across the courts instead. For how the sizes are chosen, see Generate rounds in Ladder League.
If auto-generation is on
Auto-generation only creates the next round once the games it depends on all have scores. Unscored games left by the player who went home hold it up.
In a league, auto-generation waits for every game in the round to be scored. Generate the next round by hand instead.
In a single-day event, each court's next round is created once that court and the courts on either side of it are fully scored, and the players on it stay together. A court left without enough players is skipped. Generate the whole round by hand to re-split the courts.
More on this in Auto-generation in Ladder formats.
When to use Edit Groups instead
Use Edit Groups only when you want to rearrange the round being played right now. Saving rebuilds the games on every court you changed. If any of those courts already have scores, we ask before clearing them.
Every court in a doubles Ladder League needs at least 4 players. If removing someone leaves a court short, Save names the court and won't save until you move a player onto it.
Removing a player in Edit Groups also checks them out (single-day events) or opts them out for that date (leagues).
See Editing groups in Ladder formats for the full editor.
