Create a Round Robin to Bracket event

Create a Round Robin to Bracket event by choosing one of three formats for the division: Round Robin to Single Elimination, Round Robin to Double Elimination or Round Robin to Compass. All three run round robin pool play first, then a playoff bracket seeded from the pool standings. You pick the variant when you create the event.

Choose your variant

  • Round Robin to Single Elimination: one loss and a team is out. You choose how many teams advance.

  • Round Robin to Double Elimination: teams must lose twice. Every team that can still play goes into the bracket.

  • Round Robin to Compass: four connected brackets so teams keep playing. Every team goes in, and the bracket supports a maximum of 16 teams.

All three support singles and doubles divisions and are recommended for Tournament and Single Day events. Compare them in How Round Robin to Bracket works.

Standard Round Robin (Set Partners) also has a KNOCKOUT tab for an optional single-elimination playoff. Choose a Round Robin to Bracket format when the bracket is the point of the event, or when you want double elimination or compass.

Create the event

To keep registrations synced with CourtReserve, start from the CourtReserve event instead: see Create a GGS event from a CourtReserve event and pick your Round Robin to… format there. An event created directly in Good Game Sports can't be linked to CourtReserve later.

  1. On your club page, click Create event (or Create Event next to the search bar on the Events tab).

  2. Enter the Event Name and set Event Type to Tournament or Single Day Event.

  3. Set Format to your chosen Round Robin to… variant.

  4. Fill in Location Details, Date and Time, Registration Type and pricing.

  5. On the divisions step, set Division Type to Doubles or Singles and confirm the format.

  6. Complete the description sections and create the event.

Add teams

Teams are fixed pairs, so record who is with whom before you generate pool matches. In a doubles division, a player without a partner is left out of the schedule, not paired with someone.

  • Upload Players (spreadsheet import) with both partners on each row is fastest.

  • Add players individually and use the pencil icon to set each player's partner.

  • CourtReserve sync: on the Players tab, tap the refresh icon next to Last synced from CourtReserve, or pull down to refresh. See Sync players into an event.

For Round Robin to Compass, keep the field to 16 teams or fewer, or the bracket won't generate.

What to do next

  1. Generate pool matches from the Matches tab admin menu with Generate Matches. See Getting started with Round Robin to Bracket.

  2. When pools are scored, generate the playoff bracket.
