Generate the playoff bracket
When pool play is finished, generate the bracket from the Knockout tab. The app seeds advancing teams from the pool standings.
Before you generate
Score every pool match first. The app checks and warns you if any are still unscored:
"Not all pool play matches have been completed. Generating the knockout bracket now may result in incorrect seeding based on incomplete standings."
You can continue past the warning, but the seeding will reflect incomplete standings. If you generate early and then finish pools, clear the bracket and generate again.
Generate the bracket
Open the Knockout tab for your division.
Tap the Admin button.
Select Generate Bracket.
Review the completion warning if it appears.
Choose how teams advance (below).
Confirm.
How teams advance
Four options, and they behave quite differently.
Finals + Third Place Only
The top 4 teams overall. There are no semifinals — the top two seeds go straight into the gold final, and the 3rd and 4th place teams go straight into the bronze match. It is a single-round bracket.
Use it when you only want to settle the podium. Requires at least 4 teams.
This is not a 4-team knockout. If you want the top 4 to play semifinals first, use Pick Total Number of Teams and choose 4 instead.
Pick Number of Teams Per Group
The same number of teams advance from each pool — top 2 from each group, for example. Keeps representation even across pools regardless of how strong each pool was.
Pick Total Number of Teams
The best teams overall advance, however they are distributed. If one pool was much stronger, more of its teams get in.
Pick All Teams
Every team enters the bracket. The bracket size rounds up to the next power of two and the gaps are filled with byes.
Seeding and byes
Teams are ordered by the pool standings, using your division's configured sort — Wins, then Head-to-Head, then Point Differential by default.
The bracket then uses standard seeding: highest against lowest, second-highest against second-lowest, so the two best seeds can only meet in the final.
When the advancing count is not a power of two, byes fill the empty slots. A team with a bye advances without playing and joins at its first real match.
If byes would cause two teams from the same pool to meet in round 2, the app swaps bracket slots to avoid it where possible — so teams who already played each other in pools do not immediately face each other again.
Third-place match
A bronze match is created automatically whenever the bracket has two real semifinals. If either semifinal contains a bye, no bronze match is created.
Scoring it is optional and it never blocks the final.
Compass brackets
Round Robin to Compass seeds the top 16 into four cascading brackets. Teams that lose in round 1 of a bracket drop into the next one rather than going out, so every team is guaranteed at least 3 games. Bracket 1 quarterfinal losers also drop to Bracket 4.
With fewer than 16 teams, empty slots fill with byes and propagate through the brackets automatically.
