Troubleshoot Round Robin to Bracket

Teams you did not expect are in the bracket, or the seeding order looks wrong.

Cause: The bracket was generated before pool play finished, so it seeded from incomplete standings. The app warns about this but lets you continue.

Fix:

1. Finish scoring every pool match.

2. Open the Knockout tab, tap Admin, and select Clear Knockout Bracket.

3. Run Generate Bracket again.

Pool scores are not affected by clearing the bracket.

You expected the top 4 to play semifinals, but the bracket went straight to a final and a bronze match.

Cause: That is what this option does. Finals + Third Place Only has no semifinal round — the top two seeds meet directly in the gold final and the 3rd and 4th place teams go straight into the bronze match. It is a single-round bracket for settling the podium.

Fix: If you want the top 4 playing semifinals first, clear the bracket and regenerate using Pick Total Number of Teams, choosing 4.

You fixed a pool result, but the bracket still shows the old seeding.

Cause: The bracket is seeded once, when you generate it. It does not re-seed itself when pool results change afterwards.

Fix: Clear the bracket and generate it again to pick up the corrected standings. Any bracket scores already entered are lost, so do this before the playoff gets underway if you can.

The bracket finished without a bronze match.

Cause: A bronze match is only created when the bracket has two real semifinals. If either semifinal contained a bye — which happens with small or odd team counts — no bronze match is created.

Fix: Nothing is broken. If you need a third-place result, either advance more teams so both semifinals are real matchups, or decide third place from the pool standings.

Teams who already played each other in pools were matched again early in the playoff.

Cause: Byes can pull two teams from the same pool together in round 2. The app rearranges bracket slots to avoid this where it can, but with certain team counts and pool distributions there is no arrangement that avoids it.

Fix: This is a seeding constraint, not an error. If it matters, advancing a different number of teams changes the bracket shape and usually the pairing.

Generation fails with an error about team count.

Cause: Finals + Third Place Only needs at least 4 teams. Other options need enough teams to fill a bracket after byes.

Fix: Advance more teams, use Pick All Teams, or check that teams were not left in Excluded in the group editor during pool play.

Bracket scores are gone after clearing.

Cause: Clearing removes all knockout matches including their scores. It is irreversible and warns first.

Fix: The bracket scores have to be re-entered. Pool play scores and standings are untouched, so the bracket can be regenerated with the same seeding.
