Getting started with Round Robin to Bracket

Run pool play, then seed a playoff bracket from the pool standings. This covers Round Robin to Single Elimination, Round Robin to Double Elimination and Round Robin to Compass. The pool stage is the same for all three; the bracket step differs by variant.

Event lifecycle

1. Create the event. Pick your bracket variant as the division format. See Create a Round Robin to Bracket event.

2. Add teams as fixed pairs. Import a spreadsheet with both partners per row, set partners with the pencil icon, or sync from CourtReserve. Pair everyone before generating: a doubles player without a partner is left out of the schedule.

3. Run pool play. On the MATCHES tab, tap Admin and choose Generate Matches to set the Number of Pools and how many times teams meet. The same menu has Edit Groups, Add Rounds, Configure Courts and Clear Round for changes along the way. These Standard Round Robin (Set Partners) articles cover similar steps:

4. Finish scoring pools. Do this before generating the bracket, because seeding comes from the pool standings at that moment.

5. Generate the bracket. Open the bracket tab, tap Admin and choose Generate Bracket. What you choose depends on the variant:

  • Round Robin to Single Elimination (KNOCKOUT tab): pick how teams advance (Finals + Third Place Only, Pick Number of Teams Per Group, Pick Total Number of Teams or Pick All Teams), then the seeding and seed order. See Generate the playoff bracket.

  • Round Robin to Double Elimination (MAIN DRAW tab): every team goes in (up to 32). You only pick the Grand Final Format. See Running pool play to double elimination.

  • Round Robin to Compass (COMPASS tab): every team goes in, up to 16. There are no choices to make.

6. Run the playoff. Winners advance as you score. See Run the bracket and enter scores.

7. Publish results. Use Viewing Final Placements once the final is scored.

Name your pools

Pools are called Group 1, Group 2 and so on until you rename them, for example to Pool A and Pool B. You can rename pools once the division's matches are generated.

  1. On the MATCHES tab, pick the division, tap Admin and choose Edit Groups.

  2. Tap the pencil next to the pool's name.

  3. Type the new name, up to 40 characters, and tap Save.

  4. Tap Save at the bottom of Edit Groups.

Each pool needs a different name, and a name can't be Group followed by a number. Clear the name to go back to the default. The new name shows in the pool filter on the MATCHES tab and in the pool headings on the STANDINGS tab.

If you pick Choose Pools when you generate matches, the same pool editor opens right after, so you can name the pools there too.

Good to know before you start

  • Score pools first. In Round Robin to Single Elimination we warn you if pool matches are unscored but still let you generate. The bracket does not re-seed when pool results change later.

  • Compass takes at most 16 teams. With more, generation fails. Use Single or Double Elimination for a bigger field.

  • "Finals + Third Place Only" has no semifinals. The top two go straight to the final and 3rd and 4th straight to the third-place match. It needs at least 4 teams. For a top-4 knockout with semifinals, use Pick Total Number of Teams and choose 4.

  • The bracket is safe to rebuild. Clearing it removes only bracket matches. Pool scores and standings are untouched.

  • Singles works. All three variants support singles or doubles divisions.
