Generate rounds in Cream of the Crop
Round 1 builds the groups. Every round after that regroups everyone by where they finished.
Round 1
Generate and the app splits your players into groups of four — or five, if you have exactly 25.
Each group plays three matches, pairing every combination so each player partners each of the other three exactly once.
Cream of the Crop always assigns groups from standings, so the sorting method you pick at generation has no effect. For the first round, with no results yet, groups come from the current player order.
Later rounds
Score every match in the current round.
Generate the next round.
The app reads the finishing order inside each group and rebuilds the field: all 1st-place finishers into one group, all 2nd-place into the next, and so on.
Score the whole round before generating. Regrouping depends on a complete finishing order in every group — partial results give you groups built on incomplete standings.
How ties across groups are broken
When several players finished at the same rank, they are ordered by point differential, largest first. Winning your group by 15 puts you above someone who won theirs by 2.
With groups of five — the 25-player case — this does not apply. Players at the same rank keep their original group order instead.
Ranking inside a group
Who finishes 1st in a group of four comes from your division's standings sort — the primary stat and its tiebreakers.
Because that finishing order is the only thing that decides the next round's groups, it is worth checking the sort is set the way you want before the first session rather than after.
Changing the roster mid-season
For a league, each session generates from who opted in — and the count has to be valid every time.
If a week lands on an unusable number, adjust the active pool in the group editor before generating. See Player counts for Cream of the Crop.
