Player counts for Cream of the Crop

Cream of the Crop runs with any number of players from 4 up. The app works out the courts for you: as many courts of 4 as the field allows, with courts of 5 taking the extra players.

Court sizes by player count

With no court limit set on the division, these are the courts you get. Anything over 11 players always splits into courts of 4 and 5.

Courts of 4 play on top by default. To put the courts of 5 on top instead, set Group Size Priority to Groups of 5 on top in Cream of the Crop Settings.

When you have fewer courts than that

Every court plays at the same time, so Cream of the Crop never builds more courts than your division has. If courts are set on the division, the app splits the field as evenly as it can across them.

• 17 players on 3 courts play as courts of 5, 6 and 6.

• 20 players on 3 courts play as courts of 6, 7 and 7.

Courts of 6 or more always play at the bottom. The app also never uses so many courts that one drops below 4 players: 8 players with five courts available still play as two courts of 4.

Courts of 6 and 7

On a court of 6 or 7, the partnerships don't divide into whole games, so a few games exist only to complete everyone's partnerships. Those games don't count toward the standings for the players filling in, so everyone on the court ends the round on the same number of counting games.

Leagues: numbers change every week

Each league round is built from the players opted in for that date, so the court layout can change from week to week. You don't need to hit a particular number. Check you have enough courts for the turnout, and at least 4 players. See League opt-in.

For a Single Day Event, rounds use the players who are checked in. If fewer than 4 are checked in, the round uses everyone on the roster except withdrawn players and substitutes.
