Ladder Formats

Editing groups in Ladder formats

After you start a ladder round, review the groups before play begins. Group editing is where you fix assignments, move players, and adjust format-specific settings.

Open the group editor

  1. Tap the admin button.

  2. Select Edit Groups.

  3. Review each court or group and its assigned players or teams.

The editor also opens automatically after Start Games.

Move players or teams

  • Click the group number dropdown to the left of a player or team.

  • Select the group where you want to move them.

  • Tap + to add a group.

  • Tap X on an empty group to remove it.

  • Use search to find a specific player.

Tap Save Changes when you are done.

Add players or teams to a group

Use Add Players when someone was left out of the generated matches and you need to place them into a group manually.

  1. Open Edit Groups.

  2. Click Add Players.

  3. Find the player or team in the list.

  4. Select the group where they should be added.

  5. Save your changes.

This list usually includes players who were already opted out, or players who opted in after matches were generated. In team formats, you can add teams the same way.

Remove players from active groups

Click the red - button to remove a player from the Active Players tab. Good Game Sports moves that player into the Add Players tab automatically.

Removing a player also updates their event status:

  • In a league, the player is opted out.

  • In a single-day event or tournament, the player is checked out.

Use this when a player can no longer play in the current round and you want them available to re-add later if needed.

Switch Ladder group settings

Switch Ladder Individual includes a number of switches setting for each group. This controls how many matches each partnership plays before partners rotate.

  • Choose 1x, 2x, or 3x.

  • Changing one group updates other groups of the same size.

  • These options are available in Switch Ladder Individual only. They are not available for Switch Ladder Teams yet.

Reorder players within a group

In Humpty Dumpty Individual and Standard Ladder Individual, you can drag players within a group to change matchups and partner pairings. Team-based formats keep fixed teams together, so in-group player reordering does not apply.

When to edit groups

Use the editor right after starting games so you can fix issues before anyone begins play. If you need to create the round first, see Starting games in Ladder formats. If player availability is changing between league dates, see League opt-in. For court-specific setup, see Court management in Ladder formats.
