Ladder Formats

How court movement works in Ladder formats

Court movement determines where players or teams go after each ladder round. The movement rule depends on the ladder format you chose.

Standard Ladder

Winners move up one court and losers move down one court. A winner already on Court 1 stays there. A loser already on the bottom court stays there.

Switch Ladder

Switch Ladder uses the same up-and-down court movement as Standard Ladder. The extra setting is the number of switches, which controls how many matches each partnership plays before partners rotate. For that setup, see Editing groups in Ladder formats.

Humpty Dumpty

Humpty Dumpty uses more dramatic movement. Winners still move up one court, but losers on Court 1 drop all the way to the bottom court. Losers on other courts move down one court, and losers already on the bottom court stay in place.

Cream of the Crop

Cream of the Crop uses progression by finishing position instead of simple winner-up, loser-down movement. You can use Top Performers → Top Courts or Two Up, Two Down. For the full breakdown, see Cream of the Crop ladder format.

How byes are handled

When player counts are uneven, some formats show byes at the bottom of the matches view. Standard Ladder, Humpty Dumpty, and Cream of the Crop can show bye players. Switch Ladder does not use a separate bye group. To understand how round results affect rankings, see How Standings Are Calculated.
