Common problems, most of which come back to the player count.
You cannot generate a round.
Cause: Almost always the player count. Cream of the Crop needs a multiple of 4 with at least 16 players, or exactly 25. Counts like 12, 18, 22 and 26 cannot be split into valid groups.
Fix: Bring the count to a valid number — add a player, or remove someone from the active pool in the group editor. See Player counts for Cream of the Crop.
The same division worked last session and fails this one.
Cause: Opt-ins changed the count. Twenty players last week and 22 this week means this week cannot generate.
Fix: Adjust the active pool to reach a valid count before generating. This is a check to make every session, not once at setup.
You picked a sort at generation and it made no difference.
Cause: Cream of the Crop always assigns groups from standings. The sorting option is accepted but not used by this format.
Fix: Nothing to fix. To influence the order, change the division's standings sort — that is what actually drives the finishing order and therefore the groups.
Both finished 1st, but only one went into the top group.
Cause: Ties across groups are broken by point differential. Winning by a wide margin ranks above winning narrowly.
Fix: Working as intended. In the 25-player case — groups of five — this does not apply, and players at the same rank keep their original group order instead.
The regrouping does not match the previous round's results.
Cause: The previous round was not fully scored. Regrouping needs a complete finishing order in every group; missing scores produce an incomplete ranking.
Fix: Score every match in the round, then clear and regenerate the new round.
Someone says they keep playing with the same people.
Cause: Within a round that is by design — a group of four plays three matches so you partner each of the other three exactly once.
Across rounds, players who consistently finish at the same rank keep landing in the same group, so they will see each other often. That is the format working: consistent performers are grouped together.
Fix: Nothing to fix. It settles as results spread out.
There are more groups than courts.
Cause: Every group plays at the same time — there is no queue. Four groups need four courts.
Fix: Either reduce the roster to a valid count that fits your courts, or add courts. Sixteen players is the minimum and needs four.
