Fixes for the problems hosts run into most with Cream of the Crop: generation that won't start, players landing on a court you didn't expect, odd court sizes, and games that don't count.
Cream of the Crop needs at least 4 players in the round. For a league, that means 4 players opted in for that date. For a Single Day Event, it means 4 checked in (with fewer than 4 checked in, the round uses everyone registered).
Fix: Opt in or check in more players, then generate again. See League opt-in.
Court 1 has fewer seats than there are court winners. With 20 players on five courts of 4, five players win their court but only four fit on Court 1. Winners are ordered by win percentage, then average point differential, then which court they won, and the winner with the weakest record starts the next court.
If the player also missed game days, the Absence Penalty may have dropped them too. Otherwise this is working as intended.
The Absence Penalty drops a player 2 places for each missed game day after the first one in the season. The first miss is free, and byes never count.
Fix: If you don't want absences to cost players anything, turn off Absence Penalty in Cream of the Crop Settings. Players then always come back in the place they last finished.
A player who misses a round keeps the place they finished in the last round they played. A Court 1 winner who sits out a week comes back ranked with that week's court winners. This is working as intended.
A player with no finished round has no place to rank from, so they start at the bottom. One good round moves them up. To place them higher straight away, move them in Edit Groups from the Admin menu.
By DUPR Rating puts the highest-rated players on Court 1, the next group on Court 2, and so on. A player without DUPR is placed by the estimated rating you entered for them, and one with neither sorts to the bottom. Courts look mixed when round 1 was generated with Random, when many players have no rating, or when players were moved by hand.
Fix: Open the Admin menu, tap Regenerate for round 1 and choose By DUPR Rating, or move players between courts in Edit Groups before play starts. By DUPR Rating only appears when at least one player has a DUPR or estimated rating.
Finishing places only count scored games. If any game was unscored when you generated, players were placed on incomplete results.
Fix: Score every game in the previous round, then open the Admin menu and tap Regenerate for the new round. Regenerating deletes any scores already entered on that round.
Your division has fewer courts than the field needs in 4s and 5s. Every court plays at once, so the app splits players evenly across the courts you have. Courts of 6 or more always play at the bottom.
Fix: Add courts to the division if you have them, or accept the bigger courts. See Player counts for Cream of the Crop.
On courts of 6 and 7, a few games exist only to complete everyone's partnerships. Those games don't count toward the standings for the pair whose partnership was already covered, so everyone on the court finishes the round on the same number of counting games. This is working as intended.
The standings sort only changes how the standings table is ordered. Courts always come from finishing places, which use win percentage and then average point differential. This is working as intended.
Within a round that is by design: everyone partners each of their court-mates once, or twice with 2 Matches per Partner. Across rounds, players who keep finishing in the same place keep landing on the same court, so they see each other often. It spreads out as results vary.
