Create an Up and Down the River event

Up and Down the River runs as a League — multiple weeks, with players opting in per date.

Choose your variant

  • Up and Down the River — players register individually and get a new partner every round.

  • Up and Down the River (Set Partners) — players register as fixed pairs and stay together.

Create from CourtReserve

Use this when the event already exists in CourtReserve and registrations should stay linked.

Before you start: club owner access in Good Game Sports, CourtReserve admin access, and a CourtReserve plan with API access (Scale or Enterprise). If the integration is not connected, complete Enable API access in CourtReserve and Connect CourtReserve first.

  1. Open your club page, then click Manage Club.

  2. Select CourtReserve Events.

  3. Find your event under Unpublished. Events sync from 2 days in the past to 100 days in the future.

  4. Click + Create Event on GGS.

  5. Set Event Type to League, Type to Doubles, and pick your variant as the Format.

  6. Click Create Event.

An event created directly in Good Game Sports cannot be linked to CourtReserve later. If you want registration sync, start from CourtReserve.

Create directly in Good Game Sports

  1. From the dashboard, click + Create Event.

  2. Enter the Event Name and set Event Type to League.

  3. Set Format to your variant.

  4. Fill in Location Details and Date and Time.

  5. Choose your Registration Type and pricing, then continue.

  6. On the divisions step set Division Type to Doubles and confirm the format.

  7. Complete the description sections, then create the event.

Add players

Up and Down the River — players enter individually. Import a spreadsheet, use + Add Players, or sync from CourtReserve.

Set Partners — players enter as pairs, so the roster needs to record who is with whom. A spreadsheet with both partners per row is fastest; otherwise use the pencil icon on a player to set their partner.

For CourtReserve-linked events, go to the Players tab and click Sync CR. See Sync players into an event.

Think about your numbers

This format needs exactly four players to a court, which makes roster size matter more than it does in other league formats.

  • A roster divisible by 4 fills every court with nobody sitting out.

  • Anything else leaves a bye group, and those players sit that round. The bye rotates as bottom-court losers swap into it.

  • In the set-partners variant, think in pairs — you need a multiple of 2 pairs per court, so 8, 16, 24 players fill cleanly.

You do not have to hit those numbers. A bye group is normal and handled automatically; it just means somebody sits each week.

Set up the season before round 1

Add your play dates. Each week is a date, and the opt-in deadline counts back from it. See Managing rounds and dates in Ladder formats.

Configure the opt-in deadline. Rounds are built from whoever opted in for that week. See League opt-in.

Configure your courts, and decide your bye mode — whether the bottom players sit out or everyone takes turns. See Bye Mode for Ladder Leagues.
