Common questions about why the courts came out the way they did.
You expected whoever lost on Court 1 to fall to the bottom.
Cause: That is not how this format works here. A top-court loser drops to Court 2 — exactly one court, the same as a loss anywhere else.
Fix: Nothing to fix. Some versions of this game played elsewhere send the top loser to the bottom; this one does not. If you need that behavior, you would have to move the player by hand in the group editor each week.
A court paired 1st and 2nd against 3rd and 4th.
Cause: Splitting up previous partnerships takes priority over balance. If the balanced pairing would repeat a partnership from an earlier round, the app takes a less balanced option that gives everyone a fresh partner.
Fix: Working as intended. Over a season it produces more partner variety. See How partners are chosen each round.
The new round has the same courts as the last one.
Cause: The previous round was not scored. Movement comes entirely from who won, so with no results there is nothing to act on.
Fix: Score the round, then generate again. If you already generated the empty round, clear it, enter scores, and regenerate.
The bye group looks like it is not rotating.
Cause: Your bye mode is set to position, which sits the bottom players out. Rotation mode instead takes turns evenly.
Fix: Switch bye mode to rotation if you want the bye shared around. See Bye Mode for Ladder Leagues.
Note that bottom-court losers swap into the bye group as part of normal movement, so some rotation happens even in position mode.
One group is short.
Cause: That is the bye group. This format needs exactly four to a court, so any remainder after dividing the opted-in players by 4 sits out that round.
Fix: Nothing to fix. If you would rather nobody sat out, adjust the roster so the opted-in count divides by 4 — or accept the bye, which rotates as losers swap into it.
People on the roster were not scheduled.
Cause: Only players opted in for that date are included. Opted-out players, and anyone who never responded before the deadline, are excluded.
Fix: Check opt-in status for that date, set it, and regenerate. See League opt-in.
The clear option is unavailable.
Cause: Auto-generation is running.
Fix: Stop auto-generation, clear the round, then restart it if you want. See Auto-generation in Ladder formats.
