Common questions about why the courts came out the way they did.
You expected whoever lost on Court 1 to fall to the bottom.
Cause: In this format a top-court loser drops to Court 2: exactly one court, the same as a loss anywhere else.
Fix: Nothing to fix. Some versions of this game played elsewhere send the top loser to the bottom; this one does not. If you need that, move the player by hand in Edit Groups each week.
A court paired 1st and 2nd against 3rd and 4th.
Cause: Giving players a new partner comes before balance. If the balanced pairing would repeat a partnership from the previous round or from earlier that night, the app picks a less balanced option with fresh partners when one exists. If every option repeats someone, it picks the one with the fewest and oldest repeats.
Fix: Working as intended. It gives everyone more partner variety through the night. See How partners are chosen each round.
The new round has the same courts as the last one.
Cause: The previous round was not scored. Movement comes entirely from who won, so with no results there is nothing to act on.
Fix: Score the round, then generate again. If you already generated the empty round, clear it, enter scores, and regenerate.
The bye group looks like it is not rotating.
Cause: Bye Mode is set to By Position, which sends bottom-court losers to the bye group.
Fix: Choose Rotation in Bye Mode the next time you generate (or By Rotation in the auto-generation settings) to share the bye evenly. See Byes in ladder formats.
Bottom-court losers swap into the bye group as part of normal movement, so some rotation happens even with By Position.
One group is short.
Cause: That is the bye group. This format needs exactly four to a court, so any players left over after filling courts of four sit out that round.
Fix: Nothing to fix. If you'd rather nobody sat out, adjust the roster so the number playing divides by 4, or accept the bye, which rotates as losers swap into it.
People on the roster were not scheduled.
Cause: Each round uses the players opted in for that date. Players who haven't answered are added only when too few opted in, and anyone you removed from the courts in Edit Groups is left out.
Fix: Check opt-in status for that date, set it, and regenerate. See League opt-in.
Tapping Clear Round shows Auto-Generation Active.
Cause: Auto-generation is on.
Fix: In the Admin menu, tap Stop Auto-Generation, clear the round, then turn it back on if you want. See Auto-generation in Ladder formats.
