How Season Points League works
Teams are split into skill tiers. Every week each tier plays its own round robin, the top teams promote and the bottom teams relegate, and teams bank season points based on where they finish. Those points accumulate all season to decide the champion.
This format was previously called Tier League (Set Partners). It is the same format under a new name — look for Season Points League (Set Partners) in the format dropdown.
The shape
By default: 3 tiers of 5 teams — Gold, Silver and Bronze — so 15 teams in total.
That shape is configurable. You can set how many tiers you want and how many teams sit in each, and the team count follows: tiers × teams per tier.
The names Gold, Silver and Bronze apply when you run exactly three tiers. With any other number the tiers are simply named Tier 1, Tier 2, and so on, with Tier 1 at the top.
Teams register as fixed pairs and keep the same partner all season.
A week
Every team plays a round robin inside its own tier — with 5 teams that is 4 matches each, one against every other team in the tier.
You enter the scores.
You advance the week. Promotion and relegation apply, season points are awarded, and the next week's round robins are generated for the new tiers.
Weekly standings reset every week. Wins, losses and point differential all start fresh. Only season points carry forward.
Promotion and relegation
When you advance a week, the top finishers in each tier move up and the bottom finishers move down.
You choose how many move each week. With the default tier size of 5 that is 1 or 2. Larger tiers allow more — the limit is half the tier minus one, so the promoting and relegating bands never overlap.
It is a per-week choice, not a season-long setting, so you can dial movement up or down as the season goes.
Teams only ever move one tier at a time. The top tier cannot promote above itself, and the bottom tier cannot relegate below itself.
Season points
This is what actually decides the season.
Each week, every team earns points based on where it finished within its tier. Higher tiers are worth more, so climbing is rewarded:
Finish in tier | Gold | Silver | Bronze |
|---|---|---|---|
1st | 38 | 25 | 17 |
2nd | 27 | 18 | 12 |
3rd | 23 | 15 | 10 |
4th | 18 | 12 | 8 |
5th | 15 | 10 | 7 |
Winning Bronze is worth less than finishing 4th in Gold — the table is what pushes teams to climb.
Points from every advanced week add up, and they are recomputed from scratch on each advance, so re-running an advance never double-counts.
If you change the tier count or tier size away from the default 3 × 5, you must also supply your own season points table. The default table only covers three tiers of five, and the app will not let you run a custom shape without one.
The champion
The season champion is the team with the most season points at the end — not necessarily the team sitting in the top tier in the final week.
A team that spent the season winning Silver can out-point a team that scraped through Gold.
