Free agent settings
Free agent settings control how unattached players register and when they get charged. Use them when your event allows players to sign up without a team and be picked up later.
Free agents are players who register without a team assignment. Review Glossary of terms if you want the broader event vocabulary first.
When to allow free agents
Allow free agents when you expect captains or hosts to fill rosters after registration opens. This is common for league play, team events, and formats where player pickup happens after the initial sign-up.
How payment works
In Configuring registration settings, you decide whether free agents pay right away or save payment for pickup.
If free agent payment is enabled, the player pays during registration.
If it is disabled, the player registers first and is charged only if they are later picked up by a team.
At a high level, that means the registration flow and the team-assignment flow work together. For deferred payment, the card stays on file until a captain adds the player to a team. See Setting up payment for the Stripe connection used for charges and payouts.
Pickup and assignment
When a free agent is picked up, the host or captain assigns that player to a team. If payment was deferred, the charge happens at that point. If the charge fails, the player is not added to the team.
Use Managing Players to review who is registered, and Payments and Payouts to understand how charges and refunds are handled.
What to do next
After you decide on free agent behavior, finish the rest of your registration setup and move on to event pricing.
