Troubleshoot a Challenge Ladder
There is no Challenge Ladder Settings tile
The tile only appears when the division's format is a Challenge Ladder. Format is set per division, so an event can have one division on this format and another that is not.
Check the division's format in the event settings. If the event has several ladder divisions, the tile asks which one you are editing before it opens.
Pairing a round produced nothing
The usual cause is a round with no start date. Pairing needs one to work out the round's window.
Open Manage Round Dates from the Matches tab and make sure the round you are pairing has a date on it.
The other cause is not enough entrants. A round needs at least two to pair anybody.
A player says the Challenge button is greyed out
The button carries its own reason in place of its label. Ask them what it says:
Round N opens… — they are looking at a round that has not started. Challenges only work inside the round's own window.
Round N has closed — the play-by date has passed. Extend the round in Manage Round Dates if it should still be open.
No challenges left this round — they have used their allowance. It resets next round, or you can raise Challenge matches per round.
Nobody in range to challenge — everyone within their challenge range is already playing them. Widening Challenge range gives them more to reach.
If they see no Challenge button at all, they are not on the ladder — usually a registration that did not complete.
Players cannot see their opponent's contact details
Turn on Share opponent contact details in the ladder's settings. Without it the format still runs, but players have no way to reach each other in the app.
Even with it on, contacts are only shown for the opponent someone is actually paired against and for people they have exchanged a play request with. They are never shown in standings, and never for the ladder at large.
Someone joined after the season started
They will be placed at the bottom of the ladder the next time a round is paired. Nothing else is needed.
To place them somewhere else, use Edit order on the Standings tab before pairing the next round.
The ladder has not moved
Positions are driven by season points, and points only come from scored matches. If the ladder looks static, the matches for the round have probably not been entered yet.
Note the ladder does not wait for the end of a round. It moves as each result lands, so a round with two scores in it has already reordered those entrants.
A round will not delete
Rounds with scored matches in them cannot be removed, so the season cannot lose results by accident. Clear the scores in that round first if you genuinely need it gone.
A matchup is against the wrong person
Use the pencil on the match card to change that side. If the match already has a score it cannot be re-pointed — clear the score, change the matchup, then enter it again.
Re-pair Round N rebuilds the whole round, but only while none of its matches have been scored. Once a result is in, the round is protected and the pencil is the way to fix a matchup. See Pair rounds and fix matchups.
Nobody is playing their matches
A round that is weeks long has nothing on the calendar to prompt anyone, so this is the format's most common failure. Two things help:
Automatic reminders go out to both sides of an unplayed match three days before the round closes, and again on the final day.
Contact sharing needs to be on. Players who cannot reach each other cannot arrange anything.
If a round still ends with matches unplayed, they simply score nothing. There is no penalty, and the season carries on.
End-of-season brackets will not generate
Brackets are built from the finishing ladder, so get the last round scored first. The Generate Bracket button on the Bracket tab warns you before it replaces anything already there, and it refuses outright once a bracket match has been played.
A group that would end up with fewer than two entrants is skipped — that is what happens to the tail of the ladder when the group size does not divide evenly.
