Change groups, blocks and the final bracket in a Promotion/Relegation League
Set the number of groups, teams per group and round-robin blocks for a Promotion/Relegation League (Set Partners), and whether it ends with a bracket, in the League Structure dialog. It opens when you first generate the league. The default is 4 groups of 4, two blocks, with a final bracket. The structure is locked once any match has a score.
Set the structure
On the MATCHES tab, open the admin menu and choose Generate Groups.
Set Groups, Teams per group and Round-robin blocks, and turn Final knockout bracket on or off.
Tap Continue, then tap Continue again to confirm.
Setting | Options | Default |
|---|---|---|
Groups | 2 to 8 | 4 |
Teams per group | 4, 6 or 8 | 4 |
Round-robin blocks | 1 to 4 | 2 |
Final knockout bracket | On or off | On |
You need exactly groups × teams per group teams, and both players on each team must be set as each other's partner. Odd group sizes aren't offered.
How the calendar follows
Each block is a round robin (teams per group − 1 weeks) plus one playoff week.
Teams per group | Round robin | Block | 2 blocks |
|---|---|---|---|
4 | 3 weeks | 4 weeks | 8 weeks |
6 | 5 weeks | 6 weeks | 12 weeks |
8 | 7 weeks | 8 weeks | 16 weeks |
The final bracket comes after the last block. Add play dates to cover every week.
Choosing a shape
More, smaller groups: shorter blocks and more movement between groups.
Fewer, larger groups: longer round robins against more of the field, but less movement. In groups of 6 or 8 the middle teams have no playoff match.
More blocks: more chances to move, so the field sorts itself more thoroughly. Four blocks of 4-team groups is 16 weeks before the bracket.
One block: a single round robin, one playoff week, then the bracket.
Turning off the bracket
With Final knockout bracket off, the season ends on the final block's standings and the last step is Finalize Week N Results. With it on, the bracket doesn't need a power-of-two team count; top seeds get byes.
