Setting rating requirements per division
Use division rating requirements to keep registrations fair and limit a division to players who fit the intended skill range.
Before you start, make sure your club has a DUPR Club connection if you plan to use DUPR ratings, and review Creating an Event in GGS if you are building an event from scratch.
When to use rating requirements
Set a rating requirement when a division should only accept players with a verified DUPR or VAIR rating. Hosts use this to protect beginner divisions, cap advanced fields, and reduce manual review during registration.
In the event setup flow, these controls appear under Rating Requirements (optional) as DUPR Rating Required and VAIR Rating Required.
What happens when a player registers
If a player has a DUPR or VAIR account but does not yet have a rating, they can register for any division with skill level requirements. Players who do have a rating are checked against the division's minimum and maximum requirements. If a rated player does not meet those limits, registration validation fails and the player cannot complete signup for that division.
Rating requirements only apply to players who have an established rating. Players with an account but no rating can still register freely.
Use rating gates together with the division's skill-level limits when you want both a rating check and a minimum or maximum range. That keeps the field closer to the level you planned and makes seeding more reliable later.
How this affects seeding
Rating requirements do not seed the event by themselves. They only control who can enter the division. If you also want ratings to influence bracket placement, use Using ratings for seeding.
Next step
After you set the rating rule, continue with the rest of your division settings so the format, capacity, and restrictions all match the division you want to run.
